As forecasted we had a great opening week of fishing and we are pleased to welcome the first new member to our Pike Trophy Club. Well known host for TV fishing shows, Henry Waszczuk, caught a mighty Pike of 108 cm. Congratulations Henry and well done! Henry and his team were filming at various locations and we are looking forward to see the shows on TV.
Unfortunately we were not able to fish all the Lakes at the beginning of the week because there was still ice on them. These are Lakes at higher altitudes and it takes a bit longer for the ice-out. But we were really happy when they opened up towards the end of the week and now we can fish all the Lakes.
Lake Trout fishing was great and we almost caught two Trophies already. Craig landed two nice Trout of 95 cm, just missing the Trophy mark by as little as 5 cm. More nice fish around 80 cm were caught too.
Fishing for Pike was not as good as we expected. We caught many smaller ones, but the big ones didn’t seem to be in the areas were we usually caught them, or they were just simply not active. We believe that they might not have spawned yet as the water is still very cold. Pretty sure this will change in the next couple of days.
Grayling fishing was good but there were not many insects around yet so our guests were mainly using spinning gear.
Fishing for Rainbow Trout was great with quite a few fish over 50 cm.
After 10 days of calm and warm weather sure enough it changed when the first clients arrived. It was windy and cold for the first three days which made fishing difficult. Fortunately it changed and for the rest of the week we had very calm days but with some rain or thunderstorms. All in all an exciting start into the new season!
