2012— Week 38

It has been an excellent fishing week although the wind was giving us a real hard time. We could not fish all the lakes we would have liked to so that has limited our chances to catch more big fish. It would be an excellent time for Trophy fish towards the end of the season – too bad it didn’t happen this year. But our guests still caught plenty of Lake Trout, Grayling, Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Whitefish and Silver Salmon. The Rivers are stuffed with fish which would guarantee great fishing till the first week of October. Also the Silver Salmon Run goes well into October. We were able to do another fly out trip to a remote river at the coast of Alaska for Cohos with great success. Some of our guests fished nearby rivers for Silver Salmon and they landed several big ones. As mentioned above the wind was extreme, some days we had gusts up to 70 kmh. On a regular year we would have like one storm per week which gives you a lot more fishing options. But this September there was one low pressure system after the other hitting the Alaskan coast – and that is where we get our winds from. On the other hand the winds were unusually warm and we had temperatures up to 20° Celsius and no rain – just a weird September! But anyway, fishing was still great and all the guests happy with their catches. We are looking back to a fantastic fishing season with a total of 38 Lake Trout Trophies being caught. This is only 3 fish less than last season’s record. Pike fishing was less successful with 27 Trophies compared to 56 from last year. We believe that the high water has moved fish out of their usual spots and another reason is that we had more clients interested in Lake Trout fishing than Pike. There is certainly not a lack of fish which goes for all the species here. Fishing for Grayling, Rainbow Trout, Whitefish and Dolly Varden was as great as the last 25 years. Our season had its ups and downs, some periods were fully booked and then we had slower bookings in between. But overall we can’t complain and we would like to take the opportunity to thank everybody who has visited us this year. Many thanks also to our staff for their hard work throughout the season. Now it is time to close everything down, we wish everybody a good winter, take care and best regards from Dezadeash Lake,
