2012— Week 23

It has been an excellent fishing week and our guests caught many nice fish. At the beginning of the week we couldn’t fish all the lakes because there was still some ice on them. This has quickly changed as we had warmer temperatures for the rest of the week. But the combination of warmer weather (=snow melt) and some heavy rain during two nights has caused flooding throughout the whole Yukon. At least three highways were closed due to wash outs for several days. Unfortunately some access roads to lakes where we normally fish were affected too. But crews are working very hard to reopen the roads and we should be able to fish all the lakes at the beginning of the next week. As we have so many different waters to fish this hasn’t really caused any problems. The Lake Trout fishing was great with many nice fish up to 86 cm being caught. The Pike were very aggressive and our guests caught plenty of them up to 90 cm. Our fishermen had a lot of fun catching many Rainbow Trout on light tackle. The Grayling fishing was spotty, in some rivers the water is still very cold, the fish haven’t really moved from the lakes into streams. On other rivers we did excellent with flies and small spinners. The week started with a few clouds, warm temperatures and hardly any wind at all. Then we had two days with stronger winds and colder temperatures. The rest of the week was overcast with just a breeze from the south. So all in all a fair weather week with great fishing.
