2012— Week 22

Welcome back to another exciting season at Dalton Trail Lodge! We experienced a winter with unusual amounts of snow and very fluctuating temperatures. From -40°C to +10°C in just two days – crazy! The whole month of May was very unsettled and cold which resulted in a late ice-out. On May 27th our Lake got finally liberated by the ice and of course we couldn’t resist to go out fishing. We couldn’t launch the boat with the trailer so we had to push it over the snow and ice and then winch it back up again. It was worth it though as the fishing was great for Lake Trout. We couldn’t take any guests during this week as all our guides had to take a week’s advanced boating course. New regulations forced us to take this commercial small vessel course and everybody passed the exam. All our guides are now officially licensed for commercial boating operations. Authorities could pull any guide who is not licensed from the water and fines are pretty high. Something you might want to consider when booking a fishing trip with an outfitter. We were really busy throughout the whole month of May to get things ready for the upcoming season. Boats, ATV’s, Trucks etc. had to be serviced, plenty of painting and of course lots of cleaning after the winter. Our first guests have arrived this weekend, so more about the fishing in the next news report. Pretty sure there will be plenty of stories as this is really prime time for fishing!
