2011— Week 35

We are very pleased to welcome another member to our Trophy Club: Peter Nuesch caught a huge Pike of 114 cm! Congratulations Peter and well done. Besides the Trophy our guests landed several other nice Pike in the range of 90 to 100 cm. Fishing for Lake Trout was outstanding on all the Lakes and Rivers we have fished. Many were caught on flies and they truly offer great sport. We didn’t catch any big ones yet, the majority of the fish were in the 60 to 70 cm range. Still nice fish though! The small game hunting season opened on September 1st and of course we did a trip on that very first day. We have seen many birds and shot a few Ptarmigans, enough for a delicious meal. Talking about delicacies: we have never seen so many mushroom in our forests. Our guests loved to pick the great tasting Boletus and enjoyed them for a marvellous dinner. Another great experience here at Dalton Trail Lodge! Grayling fishing was again fantastic and many were caught on dry flies. The Rainbow Trout were also very active and our guests landed many up to 50 cm. We are experiencing a very good Sockeye run in our local rivers. As per August 26 14’443 fish have went through the weir. The authorities have raised the daily catch limit from 2 to 4 fish per day. This is a good sign and it is nice to see healthy numbers for the future. Unfortunately our weather pattern hasn’t changed. We only had two days without wind at all, which was a real treat. The other days were windy with overcast skies. The bad weather at the coast of Alaska didn’t permit us to do any fly out trips for the Silver Salmon. And the forecasts are not looking great either, right now there are remains of a Typhoon from Japan heading to the coast. Let’s hope for better weather, it has to change sometime!
