2011— Week 34

We experienced a great fishing week with many nice catches. Ernst Noelken caught a Trophy Lake Trout of 102 cm and therefore becomes a new member to our Trophy Club. Congratulations and well done! We had many fly fishermen and they enjoyed catching a lot of Lake Trout in the rivers as well as in the lakes. Those fish were not huge, usually in the 60 to 70 cm range, but truly a lot of fun on a fly rod. Pike fishing was spotty, which is normal for this time of the year. But we still managed to land several nice ones around 100 cm – by all means not bad at all! We are probably just spoiled with the sizes and amount of fish here… Grayling fishing was world class in every river or lake we have fished. Many Whitefish have moved into the rivers for spawning and there are all kinds of fish now in the streams. You can catch four different species of fish in a pool, which we call the “small grand slam”. The Sockeye are running strong in our local rivers and our guests landed several ones. They are already coloured after their long journey and we usually practice catch and release. Unfortunately we couldn’t do any fly out trips for the Silver Salmon to the coast of Alaska for two reasons: The weather was really stormy down there and flying over the mountain range impossible. With the heavy rain the rivers were flooded and unfishable. Let’s hope for a weather change! When we have low pressure systems on the other side of the mountains we usually get unsettled weather with wind here. This was the case during this week, besides the last two days we experienced cloudy skies and windy conditions. The leaves are changing colours and we are hoping for a nice “Indian Summer”!
